KEAHUA ARBORETUM

As you approach the Keahua Arboretum there is a definite change in scenery. Cool mountain air, tree-lined roads and large grassy fields offer a refreshing change from the sunny and warm beach air. The Keahua Arboretum is planted with native and introduced plants by the University of Hawaii and is used as an outdoor classroom for students and visitors. Cool off in the cold mountain spring water and enjoy lunch at one of the numerous picnic sites scattered throughout the park.

This is popular day spot for local families and visitors for picnicking, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding or just cooling off after a long day at the beach. This is also where you will find the the start of the Kuilau Ridge Trail, the 1.5 mile portion of the Na Ala Hele Trail System that will turn into the Moalepe Trail. This is an easy hike that will lead you though eucalyptus forest, native shrubs, swinging vines and give you a spectacular view of Kauai’s interior and Mount Waialeale.
